Palmetto Ramblers Bio

Palmetto Ramblers is a Florida based bluegrass band that excels at bringing a hard driving brand of traditional bluegrass to the bluegrass world.

Each member has many years of history in the bluegrass scene. We would love to play for you some time, just give us a shout.

You'll find that we are usually not very far from a palmetto bush therefore the name The Palmetto Ramblers.

Members Of The Group

Charlie Hoskins - Charlie began his musical journey as a guitar player and lead singer with Earl Taylor and The Stoney Mtn Boys in California. After touring the California area the band returned to Ohio. Charlie stayed on with the band as a bass player for three years and then moved on to Southern Kentucky. He finished his education in Kentucky and joined up with a group in London, Kentucky Charlie played at the Renfro Valley Barn Dance for two years before traveling back to Ohio and joined up with Jim McCall and Vernon McIntyre as a bassist and lead vocals. In the late 70's Charlie met up with Mike Lilly and Wendy Miller who helped get Larry Sparks carrier started. Charlie played guitar and was lead vocals for Wendy and Mike for a couple of years and the band parted. During this time Charlie would sit in from time to time with Larry Sparks and Charlie Moore on bass. Charlie Sat in on guitar for J.D. Crowe while Keith was out. Charlie met his wife Wilma in 1986 and formed a group with Wilma who also sang. The group name was Southern Horizon and they traveled 6 years until Charlie's job took him away from music and returned back to music in 2002. In August 2002 Charlie joined up with The Bluegrass Legends and played bass and vocals. In the group was a couple of members from the Bill Monroe's Ex Bluegrass Boys (Carlos Brock and Noah Crase) after Noah left the band and retired Charlie took over as the banjo player for the group until March 2007. Charlie moved to Florida in 2007 and joined some musicians to form a group called the Palmetto Ramblers. Charlie plays guitar and provides the lead vocals for the group.
